[“Clearview Aviaries provides] ever-changing, living color”
– The New York Times, September, 2006
“Elderly residents who never came out of their rooms, who were isolated and depressed, now come out just to see the birds. They spend hours watching them, and it’s clearly brought them a renewed interest in life, and a light to their eyes that before might have been dimmed forever.”
Steve Staum, Administrator of Oakridge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Wayne, NJ
Therapeutic, Calming, Entertaining
We all know that pets have a powerfully positive effect on the health and wellbeing of people of all ages. But its been proven that the elderly, in particular, benefit from contact with animals, especially birds. In one study, the introduction of an aviary into an elderly day care facility was shown to reduce depression — both because of the stimulation created by watching the colorful, life-affirming birds, as well as the increased social interaction created by the presence of the aviary.
Poetry in Motion
This is no Nature Channel — this is up-close, real-life, in real-time. Our custom-built aviaries, featuring anywhere from eight to 25 exotic Gouldian finches, are part of Clearview Aviaries’ innovative, maintenance-free program. We design our aviaries in various shapes and sizes, out of fine acrylic encased in a base of wood such as mahogany, maple or cherry. Background murals include park scenes, mountains, forests, even a tropical beach. Some units are mobile and can be moved from room to room. Not only are our aviaries a beautiful showcase for these lovely, lively beings, they are an ever-changing picture of bold living color, a striking, decorative addition to any room or facility.
What about the Poop?
Our aviaries are nothing like traditional “cages” with bars and dirty newspaper; rather, they are created in a way that minimizes mess. A member of our trained crew comes in weekly to completely clean each unit, to replace the food, natural bedding, paper and water, and to check on the health of the birds. That means you can simply enjoy the birds, without any worry about mess or maintenance.
Flying High
The natural environment within each aviary gives the birds ample opportunity to “do their thing.” Custom-designed accessories include perches and feeders hand-made by a professional wood-carver; a cuttlebone stand; and a fountain where the birds bathe and drink, powered by an automated watering system that produces a constant stream of fresh water. Our special breeding aviaries feature a hidden camera inside the nesting box; a flat-screen monitor attached to the unit allows real-time viewing of hatching eggs, and of the mother bird feeding her chicks. Unlike parrots or other birds that can be noisy, the finches communicate in sweet, soothing and melodic twitters and tweets. And they’re engaging and responsive; if you whistle at them, they’ll sing back to you.
After placing dozens of our aviaries in nursing homes, offices and doctors offices throughout the tri-state area, the customer response has been unanimous: “The birds add so much to our environment, we can’t imagine life without them.”
